Sam Smith explained track-by-track for the album via Apple Music. I work everyday for you, striving to make you proud and move you. Sailors, you have stuck with me through every challenge that comes with growing up, all the life I've lived these past 10 years. I watch you, my friends, my family and myself I write stories that I hope will help you and be your friend in your loneliest hours but also your happiest hours, too. Humans are the greatest source of inspiration for all artists, I believe. The force, however that inspires me more than anything in this world, is you. Sam Smith shared on social media, “It feels like I've been working my whole life for this album release, a chance to showcase to you my artistry and all that inspires me to do what I do. I feel like my true artist self has arrived in a way.” I wanted there to be strength within every single song. That's what I wanted this record to feel like all the way through. They continued, “I don't want to sound cheesy, but Gloria for me is like when a butterfly leaves a cocoon. “I've put so much into this record in terms of the production and the time. “My aim with this record was to make sure there is not one song on this album that I don't like,” Sam Smith told Apple Music. They recorded the album between Los Angeles, London and Jamaica, with regular collaborators Jimmy Napes, Stargate and Ilya Salmanzadeh, Los Hendrix, Max Martin and Calvin Harris. The album comprises 13-track, featuring guest appearances from Jessie Reyez, Kim Petras, Koffee, and Ed Sheeran. Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. The album is about spiritual, emotional and sexual liberation. Sam Smith said, “Gloria” isn't the name of a person, but the fighting spirit within me. It is the first album in three years since the 2020 album “Love Goes”.
