Stranglehold is the spiritual sequel to 1992’s Hard Boiled, directed by John Woo and starring Chow Yun Fat.
Now we have a game that doesn’t just try to blur the line, it tries to erase it completely. Games like The Godfather throw you straight into the middle of established films, interacting with characters you already know, often voiced by the real life actors, and you can be totally immersed in the world created for you.
As technology improves, games based on films stop being purely video games, and start becoming more like interactive movies. As time has gone by, the once very clear line between games and films has started to get a little blurry. Harking back to my younger days, there was a game based on the film Aliens, in 1986, on the Commodore 64. There have been games based on films for as long as I can remember.
